Hello! here’s some news I have to share!
Okay, so I’m really trying to make this website more integrated with my practice and usage/obsession with media. I want this virtual space to become more of a container - a butterfly net to catch loose fragments of ideas, happenings and sources of excitement. Its the notes, scraps and ephemera that collect in growing piles in my studio at SNAP (sorry Cate!), that speak to the colourful language I’ve immersed myself in. How does that translate to clean, safe, Square Space formatted website design?
I’m not sure yet. But fuck it I’m keeping a blog now - if only to talk to myself.
We just got back to Edmonton after a short stint in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia touring with our band tangent, our first string of shows for the first time in over two years- wild!
It was nice to be reminded of the reasons we make and share music with each other - celebrate the company of our friends and complain about the high rises they’re building in Halifax. The whole time Nick was passing around his camcorder, having our friends capturing the velocity of moments, collecting glimpses of our shows, shenanigans and the time we shared. I rented a Zoom recorder and tried to capture as many of our sets as possible. So stay tuned for some sort of release documenting our travels and some of our live set.
(maybe I’ll post a couple of songs from a set here…)
In other news, Anna and myself will be starting a residency at Yorath House in the River Valley next week. I’m thrilled to reignite our collaborative third mind over the next 6 or 7 weeks. We aim to activate the public facilities with a series of plinth-based sculptures, incorporating a myriad material languages used in both of our practices. I’m particularly interested in reviving our sound project Doppler. - More on that to come.
Lastly, the Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists (SNAP) celebrated their 40th anniversary this month, I was asked to produce a print as part of 1 of 4 print exchanges celebrating this milestone event. I was floored to have my work included beside so many artists that I’ve admired and look up to. To be a part of this community of artists is beyond words.
Support SNAP and purchase this print and many others here!
Okay so that wasn’t so bad… I’ll be posting more updates periodically as I have news to share and things to say.
